Dog Day Afternoon
Man's best friend worshipped in touching Nepalese festival that celebrates our closest companions.

Each year, the Tihar festival sees five days of celebrations across Nepal.

The festival is one of the most important Hindu festivals and celebrates the powerful relationship between humans, gods and animals.

On each day a different animal is honoured. From cows to crows and dogs, each animal is honoured for its significant place in Nepalese culture.

This year the Kukur (dog) was celebrated with offerings of tika, garlands and delicious food.

According to Hindu myth, dogs are celebrated as the guard of Yamaraj, the god of death.

It is believed that worshipping the deity would bring about blessings for prosperity.

On Nov 10, dogs at the Central Police Dog Training School in Kathmandu were worshipped and thanked for providing security to the people of Kathmandu.
