Queen Elizabeth attended a preview of the Chelsea Flower Show on Monday alongside Kate Middleton and husband Prince William.
The 93-year-old monarch started her visit with a stop at Kate’s woodland-themed “Back to Nature” garden, where The Cambridge’s kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, enjoyed a playdate Sunday afternoon.
Like Duchess Kate, the Queen wore an appropriately floral dress for the occasion.
Eager to impress, Duchess Kate waited for the Queen’s arrival, nervously inspecting her garden. According to royal reporter Rebecca English the Duchess was seen picking up leaves and twigs that had drifted on to the walkways. She then called over one of her aides to hurriedly hand over the bag offending rubbish. The prep seemed to be worth it as when the Queen approached the garden she said to her entourage, “It’s very tidy.”
According to People, Duchess Kate had consulted the Queen on her Chelsea garden – and included some of her childhood memories. There are carrots and beetroot, which the Queen remembers planting as a child with her sister Princess Margaret, and a waterfall in tribute to the one she loves at her Norfolk home Sandringham.
Prince George too, having seen the garden the night before, offered his mother the encouragement only a five-year-old can provide, saying he would mark her efforts as “20 out of 10”.
