Why Kate Middleton Chopped Off Her Hair

The Duchess of Cambridge has shed her luscious locks for an admirable cause.

Kate Middleton’s gorgeous brunette hair was shortened by seven inches for charity. The Duchess donated her royal locks to the Little Princess Trust, a Herefordshire-based charity which makes wigs for children who have lost hair as a result of chemotherapy and radiation.

Kate suggested to her stylist, Joey Wheeler, that they use her hair clippings for a good purpose. Although the Duchess is said to have made the donation anonymously, the Little Princess Trust caught wind of the act. Spokesperson Helen Creese said the charity was grateful for the donation. “We’re all absolutely delighted that she donated her hair, and we’re very grateful as well, just as we’re grateful to everyone who chooses to support the charity in this way, and so many people do,” The Daily Mail reports.

“It’s such a selfless act anyway to donate your hair to help a sick child or young adult,” Creese continued, adding that: “It’s lovely to think that somebody, somewhere — probably more than one person — has received a wig containing Princess Kate’s hair. It’s a really lovely thought and it’s fantastic for raising awareness, plus it’s gorgeous hair — we all lust after that hair!”

The Little Princess Trust was founded by parents Simon and Wendy Tarplee in 2006 after they lost their daughter to cancer. The charity has funded more than 5,500 wigs for children undergoing cancer treatments.
