The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge share words of parenting wisdom with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following the birth of their first child on Monday.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have spoken about their delight over the news of the birth of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s baby boy.

The Duchess of Sussex – formally Meghan Markle – gave birth to a healthy boy at 5:26am on Monday morning, with a beaming Prince Harry confirming the news just hours later.

Speaking at the launch of The King’s Cup regatta at the Cutty Sark on Tuesday, Prince William was asked how he was feeling after the birth of the baby boy – now seventh in line to the British throne – and he said: “Obviously thrilled, absolutely thrilled, and obviously looking forward to seeing them in the next few days when things have quietened down. I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my own brother into the sleep deprivation society that is parenting.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge added on their Twitter page: “We’re absolutely thrilled – welcome to the Sleep Deprivation Society!”

On whether he had any parenting advice for his younger brother, William laughed and remarked: “Plenty of advice, plenty of advice, but no I wish him all the best and I hope the next few days they can settle down and enjoy having a newborn in their family and the joys that come with that.”

Duchess Kate also recalled what it’s like to be a new parent – scary yet exciting.

Speaking at the same event, the royal mom of three talked about the rollercoaster of emotions that come with a new baby. “It’s really exciting for both of them,” she told reporters on Tuesday. “These next few weeks, it’s always very daunting first time around so wish them all the best.”

The Duchess added that she’s experienced with having children this time of year – Prince Louis was born last year on April 23, while Princess Charlotte celebrated her fourth birthday on May 2.

“It’s such a special time, obviously with Louis and Charlotte just having had their birthdays it’s such a great time of year to have a baby, spring is in the air,” she said.

Royal baby name

As for the yet-to-be-announced royal baby name, bookmakers have revealed their current favourites, names which include; Alexander, James, Arthur and Spencer. It’s also likely that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s son will be known as the Earl of Dumbarton – the title that Harry was granted by his grandmother the Queen on the morning of his wedding last year. As the son of a Duke, the royal baby is entitled to use one of Harry’s lesser titles as a courtesy title. He will also one day inherit the title, the Duke of Sussex, from Harry, Hello magazine report.
