Julia Louis-Dreyfus opened the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday local time, urging Americans to vote this November and joking that not even “Facebook, Fox News and Vladimir Putin” can stop the democratic process.
The actress opened the evening with an anecdote about how she came to meet former vice president Joe Biden while she herself was playing a vice president on HBO’s Veep, saying they “hit it off immediately”.
Louis-Dreyfus offered a number of light-hearted moments as moderator, with the actress taking digs at both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
“When Donald Trump spoke at his inauguration about ‘American carnage,’ I assumed that was something he was against, not a campaign promise,” she said.
Louis-Dreyfus was unapologetic for mocking the president throughout the night, saying she was “proud to be a nasty, nasty woman”, in reference to Trump calling women who criticise him “nasty”.
