The much-loved British chef is planning the opening of his latest restaurant in the Public Trust building in Lambton Quay after initial plans to open at Auckland’s Skycity were abandoned due to its ties to the casino.
The restaurant is to move into the ground floor of the heritage-listed building after McKee Fehl Constructors complete repair work on the site late this year.
This isn’t the first time the city has been promised a Jamie’s Italian before. In 2012, Pacific Restaurant Group, the licensees for Jamie’s Italian, hired a restaurant scout to find a 200-seat venue for the venture, though nothing eventuated.
Specialising in house-made pastas, Italian antipasti and signature classics such as the ‘Jamie’s Burger’, Jamie’s Italian has already made a splash in five Australian capital cities including Sydney and Perth, plus 13 other countries around the world.
