It’s So Hot in Phoenix, Planes Are Physically Unable To Fly
The extreme heat forecast for Phoenix, Arizona, this week has caused the cancellation of up to 20 American Airlines flights out of Sky Harbor International Airport.

According to a statement released from American Airlines, the American Eagle regional flights use the Bombardier CRJ aircraft (which has a maximum operating temperature of 118 degrees). Tuesday’s forecast for Phoenix alone was higher than 120 degrees.

Stranded travelers were advised to contact the airline for rebooking options or to request a refund.

This isn’t Phoenix’s first brush with extreme heat, nor the first time high temperatures have led to the cancellation of multiple flights. In 2013, US Airways canceled 18 flights after temperatures in Phoenix reached 119 degrees.
