International Nurses Day

International Nurses Day
Today we celebrate our hardworking nurses

They are with us from the moment we take our first breath, and are often with us too when we take our last. As a trusted member of the medical profession, nurses dedicate their lives to being there for all of us, whenever we need them most.

Today is International Nurses Day, an annual commemoration which celebrates the work of nurses around the world. It is celebrated today on the birthday of Florence Nightingale who is credited for founding modern nursing.

However, despite their dedication, recent research conducted by The Whiddon Group should that we are overlooking our nurses. Out of those surveyed, less than one in three could name a nurse who had cared for them. This was in contrast to the 71% of people who could name a doctor who had treated them, or a loved one. This lack of recognition is highlighted by the fact that 78% of Australian’s believe the nation’s nurses are undervalued.

Armed with these figures, The Whiddon Group have been motivated to change this feeling, creating the new “Share That You Care” social campaign. Launching today, “Share That You Care” is a two-week campaign designed to encourage the public to make an online declaration of thanks, and in turn, raise awareness and appreciation of the valuable work nurses do. Readers can get involved by posting an image of them (and a loved one) on Instagram saying that you to a nurse with the hashtag #ShareThatYouCare, or commenting or sharing on Facebook.

Chris Mamarelis, Chief Executive Office at The Whiddon Group said “Nurses are not only at the very heart of our care services, but of our communities as a whole. They continually go above and beyond and do not expect any special recognition for the outstanding work they do.”

Let’s take a moment over the next two weeks and show our appreciation to our wonderful nurses.
