It’s been revealed Meryl Streep dabbled in Method acting for The Devil Wears Prada, but it’s a decision she came to regret.

In an interview with the cast of the hit film, which was released 15 years ago, Streep said it was “horrible” having to be frosty towards other members of the cast.

During the filming, Streep sometimes maintained the character of the domineering boss for her off-camera interactions with co-stars Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway.

Blunt clarified that it “wasn’t like she was unapproachable”, but she would sometimes respond to their anecdotes from set in a cold way.

“You could go up to her and say, ‘Oh my God, the funniest thing just happened,’ and she’d listen, but I don’t know if it was the most fun for her to be on set being that way,” Blunt said.

“It was horrible!” responded Streep. “I was [miserable] in my trailer. I could hear them all rocking and laughing. I was so depressed! I said, ‘Well, it’s the price you pay for being boss!’ That’s the last time I ever attempted a Method thing!”

Hathaway admitted she felt “intimidated” by Streep’s on-set persona, but “always felt cared for”.

“I knew that whatever she was doing to create that fear, I appreciated [because] I also knew she was watching out for me,” she said.
