This year’s Pirelli calendar features women of all ages who have made their mark in Hollywood.
From Helen Mirren, 71 and Charlotte Rampling, 70 to Rooney Mara 31 and Lupita Nyong’o, 33, this year’s calendar is a departure from the nude models of past issues and is more of a nod to last year’s edition, photographed by Annie Leibovitz.

For this year’s 44th edition, photographer Peter Lindbergh wanted to follow on from what Leibovitz had captured, using women whose creative works inspire, and depicting them in all their un-retouched glory.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Uma Thurman said that; “This calendar was symbolic in a lot of ways… This was such a sophisticated, supportive, feminist statement they made by taking this calendar and turning it into something that is about all generations of women in a completely non-exploitative manner and making it something that is fantastic.”

Lindbergh agreed, stating that “as an artist, I feel I have a responsibility to free women from the idea of eternal youth and perfection.”

Although depicting un-retouched celebrities without perfect makeup is still considered a bold move, it is still a step in the right direction for promoting a more positive and realistic view of beauty, body image and confidence.
