Here’s why you might have noticed more hair falling out during lockdown
Are you worried that you’ve been shedding more hair than usual during lockdown? Fortunately, there’s likely a simple explanation for it.

Your hair loss could be caused by a number of different reasons, including but not limited to stress, hormonal imbalance or nutritional deficiencies. So if you are concerned by the amount of hair you’re finding in your brush, it’s worth checking in with your GP.

However, it’s possible it could just be cumulative hair shedding.

Lockdown has meant many of us have ditched the styling tools and it has even caused some of us to wash our hair less often.

It means that when you do wash your hair, you’re more likely to be pulling out larger chunks of it than you usually would.

The hairs can become trapped together in between washes, so the longer you go without styling or washing your hair, the more will fall out when your hair becomes silky from your conditioner.

Trichologist Anabel Kingsley told Cosmopolitan it’s normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day.

“If you shampoo daily you can expect to see around 80 strands coming out, with the rest being lost throughout the day,” she said.

“If you shampoo every three days, you may see three days’ worth of hair fall at once – maybe 250-280 hairs – depending on how often you are brushing or styling your hair in-between washes.”
