In the lead up to the tragic 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death on August 31, her sons, William and Harry, have pledged to commemorate their mother with a permanent memorial.
A statue of Diana, Princess of Wales, will be erected in the grounds of Kensington Palace’s public gardens, later this year.
The Princes have set up a committee to oversee the private fundraising and organisation of the statue.
The Statue Committee will include one of Diana’s sisters, Harry and William’s most trusted advisors and one of Diana’s closest friends.
Harry and William said in a statement that “It had been 20 years since our mother’s death and the time is right to recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world with a permanent statue.”
“Our mother touched so many lives. We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy.”
