Climate activist Greta Thunberg says the chances of her having caught COVID-19 are “extremely likely”.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Thunberg says she was feeling symptoms of the virus – such as fatigue, shivers, sore throat and cough.
“Around ten days ago I started feeling some symptoms, exactly the same time as my father – who travelled with me from Brussels,” wrote Thunberg. She says her father had felt much more intense symptoms and a fever.
Thunberg says she has been in isolation for two weeks after travelling around Central Europe.
In Sweden, she explains, you cannot get tested for COVID-19 unless you’re in need or urgent medical treatment. “I have therefore not been tested for COVID-19 but it’s extremely likely that I’ve had it, given the combined symptoms and circumstances.”
The minor symptoms, says Thunberg, makes the virus “so much more dangerous”, explaining the risk that comes with spreading it unknowingly.
“We who don’t belong to a risk group have an enormous responsibility, our actions can be the difference between life and death for many others,” she goes on to say, ending her announcement with a call to stay at home a look after one another. “Remember to always take care of each other and help those in need.”
