Get Your Skin Ready For Winter

Get Your Skin Ready For Winter
We’ve compiled a guide for addressing three common change-of-season beauty problems to keep you looking your best, no matter what the season.

Let’s face it after summer has passed, many of us choose to neglect our once thorough full-body beauty routine. As the cooler weather sees us retreat into layers of sweaters, stockings, boots, beanies and gloves, we are all guilty of being lulled into a false sense of beauty security – with many choosing to neglect the parts of our bodies that are no longer exposed to the elements. To add to that, all that sun, sand, surf and partying from summer has left our best assets looking and feeling flat. But it need not be that way – especially when a mid-winter getaway to warmers climes is on the cards.

We’ve compiled a guide for addressing three common change-of-season beauty problems to keep you looking your best, no matter what the season.

Say Goodbye to Dry Skin

If you were naughty during the summer season, chances are you may be experiencing some rough-to-the-touch skin. Consider booking a hydrating facial or peel with your beauty therapist. As for your at-home routine, a good exfoliator will whisk away dead, dull skin cells and speed up the skin’s renewal process while unclogging pores. Most importantly, remember to stay hydrated at all times – both inside and out. While you may not feel the need for H20 when the temperature plummets, your body still needs it, so keep a bottle handy at all times. As the air humidity drops, you might want to think about switching your go-to summer moisturiser out and adding a richer, more nourishing option to your beauty routine.

Try: 1. Aesop Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream, $65; 2. Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate, $89; Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask Pod, $6 (from Mecca Cosmetica).

The Body Beautiful

Step away from the fake tan; put that can or cream down! Over the summer months you’ve had layers upon layers of the stuff slathered or sprayed over your body and chances are your skin is starting to look patchy. It’s time to embrace your skin’s natural glow by de-tanning and detoxing. Treat yourself to a full-body exfoliation in the shower a couple of times a week to slough away dry skin. As tempting as it can be to run the shower as hot as you can bear during the chilly months, hot water can dehydrate the skin. Try and keep your shower on the cooler side and slather a good body moisturiser or oil once you step out.

Healthy, Happy Hair

Your hair needs its own beauty routine too and salt-water or chlorine from all those summer days, as well as the harsh effects of the sun, have left your hair dry and brittle. Autumn is the perfect time to rectify and address any damage from the warmer months before the cool winds, dry air and indoor heating get to your lovely locks. Adding a rich conditioning treatment, mask or oil to your haircare routine once or twice weekly.

Try: Trilogy Exfoliating Body Balm, $ Jo Malone Orange Blossom Hand & Body Lotion, $110; Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Nourishing Body Oil, $59.

Try: 7. Kérastase Chronologiste Créme De Régéneration, $69 from Rodney Wayne; Playa Ritual Hair Oil, $60 from Mecca Maxima; Evo Day of Grace Pre-Style Primer, $39.50.
