You are cordially invited to return to ‘Downton Abbey’ as the first teaser for the movie version of the beloved TV series has been released.
The cast of the Crawley family and their servants from the sixth and final season of the Downton Abbey are set to return in September in a hugely anticipated film version of the popular British drama.
The show’s most impressive character, the Abbey itself, is the star of the first teaser. A montage of shots show the house being prepared to receive guests, dust cloths being pulled back, drapes opened and silver polished.
There’s isn’t much hint of a story, but the teaser does include shots of marching soldier, and a lone motor bike rider, heading towards the spectacular house.
Julian Fellowes, who created Downton Abbey, wrote the screenplay. He’s producing the project, alongside Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge.
The film will see all of the surviving cast members of the series return for the feature debut, including the iconic Dowager Countess Violet Crawley, played to perfection by Dame Maggie Smith.
“It’s a return to these really beloved characters and seeing them in new sets of circumstances and how they will deal with those, and hopefully, a good mix of the drama, comedy, and romance that had been the mainstays of it all,” executive producer, Neame, told EW.
