A 91-year-old woman has died from COVID-19, bringing Australia's death toll from the virus to 14.

The woman was a resident at Dorothy Henderson Lodge in Sydney’s Macquarie Park, where three other residents have already died after testing positive for the virus.

There have been 18 confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the facility, with 13 residents and five employees testing positive.

“Words fail to express the deep sense of sadness and grief we are all feeling at this time,” BaptistCare CEO Ross Low said in a statement.

“I have spoken with the family to express my condolences. My heart and thoughts are with them all, along with the friends and staff who loved and cared for our resident.”

Of the 14 deaths from COVID-19 in Australia, so far there have been eight deaths in New South Wales, three in Victoria, two in Western Australia and one in Queensland.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said it was “heartbreaking” that people weren’t following social distancing orders.

“There is still a proportion of the community who are not doing the right thing, and that is heartbreaking,” she said.

“We don’t want to have to make further decisions based on the irresponsible actions of a minority, but it only takes a handful of people to do the wrong thing and have this thing spread.”

There are now more than 3500 cases of COVID-19 in Australia.
