Follow the green frog

Follow the green frog
By buying and consuming sustainable fruit and veggies, it's easier than ever for everyone to do their bit for the future of the planet.

You may be reducing your environmental footprint by not using plastic bags, saving water and eating less meat. But did you know the fruit and vegetables you buy can also make a difference?

An easy way to support environmental, social and economic sustainability is to look for produce certified by the Rainforest Alliance, an international non-profit organisation that works to conserve biodiversity and to promote the rights of workers, their families and communities. In order to receive certification, and display the alliances seal – the emblem of a green frog – farms growing this fruit must meet high standards designed to help conserve biodiversity; protect soils, waterways and wildlife habitats; and ensure farm workers receive decent housing, access to medical care and schools for their children. All Dole Tropical Gold® Pineapples sold in NZ now feature the little green frog emblem. All Ecuador bananas also feature the seal and Philippines bananas are going through the accreditation process.

Sustainability begins at home

  1. Ensure you’re buying responsibly sourced goods by looking for a little green frog emblem, which is the Rainforest Alliance certification seal. This reinforces Dole’s commitment to sustainability, workers’ wellbeing and high-quality products.
  2. Invest in reusable containers and coffee cups.
  3. Start a compost bin – banana peels and pineapple skins will break down into beautiful compost to enrich your garden.
