Whether you want to bliss out with a book under the shade of a coconut tree or would prefer to spend your holiday enjoying experiences that get your adrenaline pumping, you’ll find exactly what you’re after in Fiji.

Just a three-hour flight from Auckland, Fiji is made up of 333 diverse islands which have something to offer every type of traveller.

Here are five Fiji experiences you don’t want to miss:

  1. Swimming with manta rays

These graceful creatures call Fiji’s Yasawa Islands home from May-October and can also be found off Kadavu Island. A number of resorts provide frequent snorkelling excursions for those looking to get up close with the magical mantas, including Barefoot Manta Island and Mantaray Island Resort in the Yasawa Islands, Matava Resort on Kadavu Island and the nearby Kokomo Private Island.

  1. Chasing waterfalls

For nature lovers, a trip to the lush Bouma National Park on Fiji’s third largest island, Taveuni Island, is a must. Taveuni is known as the garden island of Fiji and it’s easy to understand why, with Bouma National Park covering a third of the island’s total area and offering abundant waterfalls and refreshing swimming holes.

  1. Floating on Cloud 9

Yes, you read that right, you can literally float on Cloud 9 in Fiji. Cloud 9 is a unique bar set in the middle of crystal-clear ocean in the Mamanuca Islands, offering visitors delicious woodfired pizzas and thirst-quenching cocktails. Guests can choose to spend their time on Cloud 9 relaxing on a lounger, dancing to live DJs, snorkelling over the surrounding reef or jumping off the deck into warm turquoise waters.

  1. Fun on four wheels

Despite often being overlooked for sugar sand beaches and crystal-clear ocean, Viti Levu’s tropical interior is one of Fiji’s best kept secrets. For the ultimate adventure packed day, explore rainforests, rolling hills and waterfalls on one of Terra Treks’ dune buggy tours and experience a different side to Fiji.

  1. Give back to Fiji

There’s no better way to truly immerse yourself in local culture than by giving back to the Fijian people and environment. Guests of Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort can volunteer through the resort’s community programme, which provides ongoing support to the local Sigatoka Valley Conua School, while Vinaka Fiji provides visitors with the opportunity to give back to the people and environment of the Yasawa Islands.
