5 foods to soothe an upset stomach
Having an upset stomach isn't great - add cramping and nausea, and it becomes nearly impossible to deal with everyday life.

Whilst it’s a good idea to keep your diet simple when you’re feeling a little sick, certain foods can actually help soothe your stomach. If you often find yourself having indigestion, here are the five foods that will help:

Bananas – aside from being easily digestible, bananas are actually known for helping with stomach issues as they contain pectin (which helps to naturally firm bowel movements).

Rice – rice, along with other starchy foods such as potatoes and oats, help coat the lining of the stomach, easing digestion and having an overall soothing effect. Starchy foods don’t sit in the stomach for long, nor do they stimulate acid reflux, which makes you feel even worse.

Coconut water – coconut water contains natural sugar to provide calories, as well as electrolytes, such as potassium which can help soothe tummies. The bonus? It also has no artificial food colouring.

Papaya – a rich source of proteolytic enzymes, which can help the digestive process, some of papaya’s top enzymes (such as papain and chymopapain) can also help break down proteins and soothe the stomach by promoting a healthy acidic environment.

Yoghurt – whilst dairy is usually a food group you’re told to stay away from when your stomach is upset, plain yoghurt is labelled as having “active cultures” which increase the number of good bacteria in your gut. This will help with digestion and get rid of that uncomfortable, bloated feeling in your stomach.
