Paris fashion week bid adieu to Karl Lagerfeld in style as the late fashion designer’s final Chanel collection went on show.

In Paris this week there was only one show in town: Karl Lagerfeld’s final Chanel collection, designed shortly before his death last month. The event was both a Chanel catwalk show and a moment at which the fashion world said goodbye to the designer.

During the Fall/Winter 2019-2020 women’s ready-to-wear collection show, his muses united on the runway in celebration of the man and his influence on fashion. Actress Penélope Cruz made her catwalk debut wearing wedge boots and layers of ruffles. The Oscar-winner, who became a Chanel face in 2018, was among the many members of Lagerfeld’s inner circle to take part in the show. With Cara Delevingne opening and longtime favourite models such as Mariacarla Boscono, Amanda Sanchez, Soo Joo Park, and Anna Ewers all present, the catwalk show was a tribute to Lagerfeld’s enduring legacy.

The show began with a minute of silence, followed a recording of Lagerfeld holding court on the art of the fashion show. The doors of Chalet Gardenia opened, and out strutted Delevingne in wide windowpane-checked wool trousers with matching silk skirt and trilby, under a tweed houndstooth coat. The theme for this year’s collection was chalet chic.

Take a look at the Alpine-themed catwalk show, complete with sheepskin moonboots, ski goggle sunglasses and chic tweed jackets:
