Family Fun on the Sunshine Coast
Planning a family holiday? Australia's Sunshine Coast has it all - a wealth of activities, family-friendly accommodation and world-class eateries.

Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is the perfect place for a family getaway. Whether it’s pristine beaches, wildlife encounters or scenic hikes you’re seeking, this idyllic part of Australia is guaranteed to satisfy. Stuck on what to do? Try these top five tips from House of Travel.

1. Explore Noosa National Park

The crystal clear waters of Noosa National Park.

Adventurers won’t want to miss a visit to Noosa National Park, a wildlife sanctuary protecting beautiful native plantlife. With five walks ranging from 1-10.8km in length, there are plenty of family-friendly options available. Take in the stunning coastal views of the Noosa Headland and relax in the cool shade if the rainforest. If the kids are lucky, they’ll spot a koala or whale.

2. Make a splash at Shelly Beach

Kids will love the many rock pools scattered around Shelly Beach.

An abundance of rock pools will entertain the kids for hours as they examine the countless barnacles, periwinkles and sea cucumbers Shelly Beach has to offer. Located on the stunning Caloundra coastline, a visit to Shelly Beach is worth it for the drive alone.

3. Get your animal fix at Wildlife HQ

Koala-spotting is a must-do for visitors to the Sunshine Coast.

The kids will love this one. Located at the iconic Big Pineapple in Woombye, Wildlife HQ is home to more than 100 species of animal from across the globe. As well as containing all of Australia’s best-known animals, from the koala and kangaroo to the dingo and Tasmanian Devil, Wildlife HQ is home to Queensland’s only Sun Bear. An affordable and fun way to spend an entire day.

4. Be amazed by Gardners Falls

Australian scenery at its best at Gardners Falls.

Head away from the coast and you’ll be rewarded with beautiful scenery encompassing rivers, forests and waterfalls. Stop at Obi Obi Creek and walk downstream to the Gardners Falls where you can take in the remoteness of the area and see some classic Australian bush. You’ll pass plenty of shallow rockpools on the way that are ideal for smaller children to have splash in.

Find some quiet at Mudjimba Beach

One of the many beach access tracks to Mudjimba Beach on the Sunshine Coast.

If you want to avoid the crowds but keep the kids safe, Mudjimba Beach is a fantastic option. Just across from the impressive Maroochydore River lies this oasis of calm. A wide, quiet beach perfect for building sandcastles or playing some beachside cricket, Mudjimba Bay is the sort of place where you can pack a picnic and while away a day. Plus, parents can rest assured knowing parts of the beach are patrolled.
