Exploring your city to find the best macaron

Let’s be honest, macarons are a melt-in-your-mouth sweet treat you can’t easily say no to. May 31 is World Macaron Day, and to celebrate we take you on a trip from Paris to Christchurch, and stopover in the cuisine capital of Australia, Melbourne, as we share some of the best spots to munch on a macaron.

Carette, Paris

Enjoy a view of the Eiffel tower from the Trocadéro esplanade while you snack on these incredible creations, and take a moment to revel in your inner Parisian. The rich ganache and smooth jam fillings will truly steal the spotlight.

Dalloyau, Paris

Claiming to be the first manufacturers of the modern macaron, Dalloyau use a 300-year old recipe keeping the original crunchy and chewy meringue shell texture. If you like things a little less smooth, give these a try!

Milse, Auckland

Situated in the heart of Auckland, Milse is considered the original dessert only restaurant and patisserie in the city. This decadent dessert bar offers an intimate space for lovers of all things sweet, including the macaron to take away.

J’aime les macarons, Christchurch

Chewy texture, colour palate, endless creative flavours, sense of tradition, and quality – this is the promise by Bridget O’Sullivan. This Christchurch-based shop name translates to “I love macarons”, and that we truly do.

La Belle Miette, Melbourne

Considered Melbourne’s macaron specialist patisserie, founded by two francophiles, La Belle Miette specialises in small delights – macarons and dragées (chocolate coated nuts, fruits and cereals). Their current macaron offering solely uses chocolate from the French chocolate house Cacao Barry and Belgian Callebaut – quality at its best.

Ladurée, Sydney

With its origins in France, Ladurée has gone on to open shops across the world, including its store in Sydney. This upscale bakery has maintained the original creator of the macaron, Pierre Desfontaines’ delicious recipe, dating back to the middle of the 20th century.

If you can’t simply jet off to Paris, why not try our delectable Lavender Macaron recipe.
