There will probably be more than one dress
It’s likely that Meghan will don not one but two wedding dresses on her big day. Sources close to Markle revealed that the bride will wear two dresses – the first will be a more traditional gown for the ceremony and once the evening rolls around, rumour has it Markle will slip into something more comfortable yet glamorous.
Victoria Beckham is not the designer
When Markle wore a white Victoria Beckham jumper in her official engagement portraits with Prince Harry rumours started to swirl in the fashion world – would Beckham be chosen as the designer for Markle’s wedding gown? While it’s very likely that Markle has turned to a British designer for her dress, Beckham was quick to quash the rumours. “She looked absolutely beautiful in my jumper. I’m sure it will be a really fun wedding,” Beckham told the Guardian. “But no, she hasn’t asked me to do the dress.”
The front-running designer is Ralph & Russo
There has been no shortage of rumours when it comes to who will design Markle’s dress – Alexander McQueen and Roland Mouret (a personal friend of Markle’s) are a couple of favourites that have been thrown around. But according to the Daily Mail a source close to the bride-to-be revealed that Meghan has chosen Ralph and Russo. Markle could have hinted at a what’s to come in her engagement photos when she donned a Ralph & Russo sequined top and black tulle skirt.
The British brand was founded by couple Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo in 2007 and has previously dressed the likes of Beyoncé and Angelina Jolie.
Markle’s ‘perfect’ wedding dress is ‘whimsical and subtly romantic’
When Markle’s on-screen persona Rachel Zane tied the knot at the end of the Suits season finale in 2016 Glamour magazine asked the actress whether Zane’s dress was one she would wear on her own wedding day. Markle responded that the gown was not her style. “My personal style – wedding or not – is very pared down and relaxed,” she told Glamour. “I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic.” Delphine Manivet, Christos Costarellos, Ellie Saab and J. Mendel were all mentioned as Markle’s favourite designers.
The verdict is still out on whether Markle will wear white
Wearing white may be an age-old tradition but the jury is out on whether Markle will opt for white for her big day. Traditionalists would assume that because Markle has been married before, white will be out of the picture. Insiders believe Markle might go for an ivory shade, some have even speculated the bride-to-be might walk down the aisle in cream or champagne hues. While golden tones of champagne and cream are unconventional choices for a royal wedding, Markle has a record as a royal fashion rule breaker – she’s broken the unspoken must-wear-pantyhose-in-public rule, she’s steered clear of the slick and polished blow waves in favour of her signature messy bun and a number of her fashion choices have been nontraditional for a royal-to-be.
