Evan Rachel Wood details shocking sexual abuse allegations against Marilyn Manson in new documentary
The actress says she was "essentially raped on camera" by the rock musician on the set of one of his music videos.

In a new documentary, 34-year-old actress Evan Rachel Wood has accused her ex, rock musician Marilyn Manson of raping her during the filming of one of his music videos.

Detailing the alleged abuse in Phoenix Rising which premiered at the 2022 Sundance film festival, Wood, who was 20 years old at the time, said she was given absinthe and that Manson “started penetrating me for real” during the filming of what was meant to be a “simulated sex scene” for his 2007 single Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand).

“I had never agreed to that,” she revealed. “I was coerced into a commercial sex act under false pretences. That’s when the first crime was committed against me and I was essentially raped on camera.”

The actress went on to describe the “complete chaos” of the set that day. “I did not feel safe. No one was looking after me” saying that the crew “was very uncomfortable and nobody knew what to do”.

Wood, who met Manson in 2006 when she was 18 and he was 38, has previously spoken out about being groomed by the musician when she was a teenager and being “horrifically abused” for years.

“The video was just the beginning of the violence that would keep escalating over the course of the relationship.”

Manson has been accused of sexual and physical abuse by a number of other women in recent years. The musician has denied the accusations, claiming that “my intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual”.

In October 2019, the Phoenix Act, which was led by Wood, was signed into law. The legislation extends the time that survivors of domestic violence can parsue charges against their abusers. Phoenix Rising will air on HBO in March.
