Emilia Clarke, ‘The Mother of Dragons’ and the Duchess of Cambridge now share a cause close to their hearts.

Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has been announced as the first-ever ambassador for Nursing Now, a global campaign aimed at raising the profile of nursing worldwide – which also happens to be supported by real-life royalty Kate Middleton.

“I know from personal experiences, and my work with the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), that nurses are the backbone of healthcare services,” the actress said in a statement. “However, they are undervalued and with policy change could achieve so much more in prevention and healing.”

The initiative has been running for three years in collaboration with the International Council of Nurses and the World Health Organization (WHO) in order to raise the profile of nurses across the globe.

With these two women on board, their campaign gains momentum ahead of 2020, officially designated by the WHO’s as the “Year of the Nurse.”

“I am privileged to be asked to join Nursing Now’s global movement by becoming their ambassador and help them empower nurses to lead, to learn and to strengthen the profession around the world,” the actress went on to say in the statement.

“This campaign means a lot to me personally. My great-grandmother and grandmother were both volunteer nurses,” Duchess Kate said in a speech at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London in 2018. “They would have learned first-hand from working with the Voluntary Aid Detachment and the Red Cross about the care and compassion that sometimes only nurses can provide.”
