After nearly fifty years of touring, legendary singer, songwriter and pianist Elton John will retire from touring. The 70-year-old British musician broke the news in a New York press conference, stating: “I’m not going to be touring and traveling the world. My priorities have changed. I have young children.” He added that: “That doesn’t mean I won’t still be creative. But I won’t travel anymore.”

Elton has long declared his love for performing live, writing the following message on social media just last year: “I absolutely LOVE playing live. The quality of every performance is always super important to me.”

Before he finishes, however, Elton said he will make one last 300-date tour called ‘Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road’, due to start in North America this year and finish in 2021. “I don’t want to go out with a whimper. I want to go out with a bang,” he said. “It’ll be the most produced, fantastic show I’ve ever done.”

The musician’s career has spanned five decades, starting with the release of his first single, I’ve Been Loving You, in 1968. Elton has won numerous musical awards, including an Oscar in 1995 for Best Original Song with Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King.
