Ed Sheeran is the world’s richest solo artist – how much does he earn?

How much does Ed Sheeran earn? The answer is – a considerable amount.

British pop star, Ed Sheeran, raked in more than £36 million (AU$67 million) in 2017, according to his company’s annual report. Not bad for someone who started out as a busker.

The 27-year-old singer — who’s now considered the richest solo artist in the world — made AU$138,686 a day last year, and over AU$50 million before tax for the year ending December 31.

Despite the huge earnings, Sheeran only paid himself AU$15,096 and has over AU$29.5 million sat in the bank, according to accounts posted at Companies House.

In July, Forbes named him as the highest earning solo star, ahead of the likes of Adele, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, with earnings of AU$153 million.

Sheeran has jumped 62 places from last year, placing ninth on the full list of top-earning celebrities, which includes the likes of football players Lionel Messi and Ronaldo.

He has even surpassed Adele’s earnings, after The Sun revealed on Friday that she’d made AU$15.9 million profit in the last year and had over AU$75.8 million cash in the bank.

It’s expected Sheeran’s bank accounts will be even healthier in the coming years, given his worldwide tour doesn’t end any time soon. Despite visiting Australia and New Zealand earlier this year, he isn’t due to wrap-up his tour dates until August 2019.

Sheeran’s Australian promoter, Michael Gudinski, previously said the 27-year-old’s success is due to the fact he’s “a punter’s pal”.

“He cares about the fans,” he said. “To see someone hold an audience in stadiums as a one-man show… he’s captured the world. No one’s seen anything like this. He’s got an incredible work ethic.”

In an interview with OK! magazine last year, Sheeran admitted money wasn’t his motivation, as long as he was “comfortable” and gave most of it away.
