Your return trip to ‘Downton Abbey’ has been booked, departing September 2019.

Ever since Downton Abbey finished its six-season run in 2016, talk of a follow-up movie has persisted. A few months back, the Downton Abbey movie was officially announced, with much anticipation for the return of the Crawley family, this time on the big screen. Internationally, the film will debut on September 13, 2019, via Universal Pictures International.

“Since the series ended, fans of ‘Downton’ have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter,” said Focus chairman Peter Kujawski. “We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of ‘Downton’ to the big screen next September.”

The series, set at the turn of the 20th Century, focused on the wealthy Crawley family and the servants who work for and live with them. The film, will be about “the Crawley family’s next chapter,” according to Kujawski.

We don’t have any plot details as of yet, but we do know that series creator Julian Fellowes wrote the movie’s script, so whatever it is, it should be true to the vision of Downton Abbey. Michael Engler, who helmed several episodes of the series, including the series finale, will handle directing duties on the Downton Abbey film.

The original cast, including Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, and Maggie Smith, are expected to return.
