‘Disturbing’: The official Lion King trailer is here, to mixed reviews

Disney has released the full official trailer for the live-action version of ‘The Lion King’.

The first full official trailer for the new Lion King movie is out, and has left some fans confused by the “hyper-realistic animals” that feature in the live-action remake.

The New York Post report some viewers have described the trailer as “disturbing” and “terrifying” while others were taken aback by the confronting realism of the animals.

The live-action remake of the 1994 Disney cartoon classic is in cinemas on July 17, and while the new version is still animated, the film’s modern CGI style has divided opinion.

The particular talking point about the trailer is Simba’s villainous uncle, Scar. From his original slick, pompous and quite frankly terrifying image, he’s now what one guy referred to as a ‘ratty looking lion’.

Disney has assembled an impressive voice cast for this remake, with Donald Glover as Simba and freaking Beyoncé as Nala. Chiwetel Ejiofor is the voice of Scar, who received an Oscar nomination for his role as Solomon Northup in 12 Years A Slave.

The Lion King is directed by Jon Favreau, who also directed Disney’s 2016’s Jungle Book remake.
