Discover South Australia and Experience a World of Unique Food and Dining
The love affair with Adelaide continues, with romantic dates turning into wild food experiences. Not only is the capital city of South Australia known for its fine dining but also for its unique, experimental cuisine. Sit back, relax, and let Adelaide treat you to the gastro-ride of a lifetime.

Your taste buds have already been tickled by some of the finest restaurants and cellar doors in South Australia but the romance is heating up and things are beginning to get a little wild.

Experience Adelaide’s unique food scene; from boutique cellar door experiences to destination dining, farmers markets, houseboating and food and wine festivals. There’s something there for every palette.

Here are a few of the activities you may want to add to list…

Farmers Markets

Nothing beats a good old-fashioned farmers market but be warned that Adelaide doesn’t colour between the lines. Not only are they the best farmers’ markets in South Australia, the Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market and Barossa Farmers Market were named in Australia’s top 10 farmers’ markets by Australian Traveller magazine, and they’re guaranteed to always offer something a bit special.

ADELAIDE SHOWGROUND FARMERS’ MARKET

Be prepared to experience a whole range of cuisine at this famous market. It’s a busy one, but don’t let that make you think your experience is any less special. The magic takes place on Sundays from 9am-1pm and includes everyone from experimental home cooks to grandmothers seeking a good old roast from a seasoned vendor. Sample everything from homegrown produce to artisan cheese. Your tummy will thank you for it.

BAROSSA FARMERS MARKET

Start your day the right way with a cheese-and-tomato toastie and brew from Barossa Coffee Roasters. This farmer’s market, open on Saturdays from 7.30am-11.30am, is no ordinary experience, known to be a one-stop shop for ingredients that are synonymous with the Barossa. The market only showcases fresh produce so don’t expect to find anything anywhere else. Think Italian pastries, small-batch cheeses, balsamico, squares of buttery fudge, charcuterie, oils, pickles, preserves and condiments. Go on, they’re waiting for you.

Food & Wine Festivals

It’s time to take out your diary and start pencilling some festivals in because Adelaide is bursting with them. Here are a few to put at the top of your list…

Cheesefest

Adelaide’s beloved (and soon to be yours too) Cheesefest is on from 27-28 October 2018, and if you’re a cheese lover you’re going to want to lock this one in. Experience artisan producers of cheese, fermented foods and beverages in a gastro-extravaganza like no other.

Barossa Vintage Festival

This unique festival is a celebration ‘by Barossans for Barossans’. The local people have outstretched their arms to the rest of the world and beckoned them to come and sample their unique offering of all things Barossan. You’ll be treated to an immersive food and wine experience, against the backdrop of Barossan history and heritage.

Tasting Australia

If you’re a foodie who’s always looking for the next new thing, you need to visit Tasting Australia. Experience world-class chefs, taste fine wine, spirits and craft beer, or spend an evening soaking up the charred flavours and aromas of Town Square. The festival takes place at the beginning – mid-April and it’s a 10-day event where you will take part in unprecedented eating and drinking experiences that only South Australia can offer. If Tasting Australia had to be described in one word, it would certainly be ‘moreish’.

If your taste buds are already tingling, consider it a sign. For an even more dreamy experience, fly with Air New Zealand. Their non-stop flights (4 non-stop flights per week from Auckland) make the foodie-destination a total breeze and the perfect easy getaway. Click here to book your holiday.
