Take a walk through Bangkok’s Bang Lamphu neighbourhood in old town, where you’ll discover beautiful ancient temples, bustling markets and a vibrant nightlife.

Start at Wat Bowonniwet, a temple with strong ties to the Thai Royal Family, where you can see and study ancient works of art and noteworthy murals. Next up, walk to the Chakkapong Mosque Community, established by Muslims who migrated from Pattani during the reign of King Rama II.

Hopefully by now you’ve worked up an appetite and are ready to sample the delicious menu at Som Song Pochana. Taste Thai classics such as Sukhothai noodles, Khao Phat Nam Phrik Long Ruea, or Kaeng Phet Pet Yang, or try dishes that are hard to find such as Khanom Chin Sao Na.

Once you’ve finished your meal, walk over to cultural gem Duriya Praneet Foundation to gain an appreciation of Thai music. Then it’s back to the temples from here, with Wat Sam Phraya Worawihan as your next stop – discover the stunning Chinese-style architecture in the ordination hall.

From here, make your way to the Wat Iam Woranuch, followed by Wat Mai Amatarod, and experience more beautiful architecture and artefacts at these temples.

Then, at the foot of the Norarattana Sathan Bridge, you’ll find the Chao Pho Nu Shrine, which has been a centre of faith for the Bang Lamphu community for nearly a century.

Back on the temple trail, be sure to stop by Wat Tri Thotsathep Worawihan, where you can learn about Buddha’s life via murals on the temple walls.
