Dior has unveiled its Cruise 2021 collection with a spectacular show in the small Italian town of Lecce.
The show was a celebration of the magical beauty of arts and crafts, with the 90-look collection using materials created by local artisans. In a special tribute to her father’s homeland, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri chose to put a spotlight on the craftspeople of Puglia.
“We are a company that works with people across the world. So many people depend on our work,” Chiuri said.
“It’s a collective project that involves many people, and I found a great sense of sisterhood and brotherhood among these people who, despite all the difficulties, and this general sense of not knowing and not understanding, decided to work with me anyway.”
Lecce’s Piazza del Duomo provided a striking setting for the presentation of the collection, thanks to a ‘luminarie’ backdrop created by multidisciplinary artist Marinella Senatore.
