Cheerful Cherry Blossoms
Crowds of people have celebrated Spring in this traditional Japanese festival

Japan has welcomed spring with gorgeous blooms of cherry blossoms. Crowds of people flocked to the Ueno Park in Tokyo to witness the floral explosion, which heralds spring and symbolises “new beginnings” in the Japanese culture.

Many people use “Hanami” or “cherry blossom viewing” to have a picnic, but also to socialise and make new friends. The season is also very popular with tourists from around the world to catch a glimpse of the famed sakura flowers.

Gu Shuyi, a tourist from China says that she found the festival very romantic, “People say the petals of cherry blossom are like snow, and I agree with that. I think it’s very beautiful that we can see something like snow in warm weather, in a season of rebirth.”
