Celebrations as Australia wins Cricket World Cup
Members of the Australian race jubilantly onto the field after defeating New Zealand in the ICC World Cup Cricket final.

In an epic final between co-hosts of the ICC Cricket World Cup, Australia and New Zealand, only one team could carry away the trophy and last night that was Australia.

The yellow team took charge when it was their turn to bat and claimed the cup in front of a record breaking crowd of 93,013 in Melbourne. There was no question, last night, Australia deserved to win.

The Australian team dedicated their win to the memory of cricketer Phillip Hughes who died on November 27, 2014, three days after being hit by a bouncer (cricket ball) during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which caused a vertebral artery dissection that led to a subarachnoid haemorrhage.

While the Black Caps couldn’t match the Australian’s performance last night they can still hold their heads high. It is the first time in history that New Zealand has made it to a World Cup Final and they still played mighty fine cricket.
