Mother to Pippa and Kate Middleton, Carole Middleton, has given an exclusive interview published in a British newspaper at the weekend. In it, she opens up about family life as mum to a royal, her daughter’s husbands and her love for her grandkids.

Speaking exclusively to The Telegraph, Carole Middleton has opened up about how life has changed since her daughter married Prince William. Despite her royal title, Carole says that daughter, Duchess Kate is still simply her daughter. “My biggest fear was that I’d lose my family, but we’ve stayed close,” she told the publication.

Carole revealed that she’s always put her family first to ensure the clan remains tight-knit – including her son-in-law Prince William.

The businesswoman also spoke about Kate’s wedding back in 2011 – and how her daughter had gone to her for advice. “We talked about music… everything. I was involved lots with both Pip’s and Catherine’s weddings,” she said. “But I think the most important thing, as a parent, is to listen to what your daughter wants. You can have all the ideas in the world, but it has to be about them. And don’t muscle in on the guest list.”

Carole also had warm words for her daughters’ husbands the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, and heir to the Laird of Glen Affric, James Matthews – Pippa’s husband. “I have two lovely sons-in-law and I hope I’ll have a lovely daughter-in-law,” she told The Telegraph.

In the most adorable anecdote, Kate’s mum revealed the one thing she does for the royal grandchildren – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – during the holidays.

When it comes to Christmas trees, “she [Kate] likes to have as many as possible in the house.” And most importantly, Carole makes sure she puts “one in the grandchildren’s rooms, ‘so that they can decorate it themselves.” Basically, when George, Charlotte, and Louis visit Kate’s parents during the holidays, they can have lots of fun getting festive with their own Christmas trees.
