Can a cocktail a day keep the doctor away?
New studies have revealed that a potent cocktail of pomegranate and dates have an important place in the fight against heart disease.

A team of researchers led by Professor Michael Aviram, at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, have discovered the benefits that a pomegranate and date cocktail, can have in protecting our arteries.

Whilst the benefits of pomegranates and dates have been widely accepted individually, new studies have found that together, they create a potent cocktail that can protect against atherosclerosis – the hardening of arteries which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

Natural antioxidants, like those created from the combination of pomegranates and dates, have been found to provide maximum protection by reducing oxidative stress in the arterial wall by 33 percent and decreased arterial cholesterol content by 28 percent.

Professor Aviram said the ultimate cocktail consisted of half a glass of pomegranate juice together with three dates – including the crushed pits.

The study concluded that people at a high risk for cardiovascular disease, as well as those with no risk, would benefit from the daily intake of this delicious cocktail.

Even without the pits, the dates themselves will still pack a punch in the fight against heart disease and provide a healthy and nourishing start to anyone’s day.
