Calling all bakers! Buckingham Palace announces pudding competition as part of Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
To celebrate the Queen's 70 years on the the throne, the Palace is hosting the ultimate great British bake off.

Aptly coined the ‘Platinum Pudding’, residents of the United Kingdom over the age of 8 have been asked to enter their pudding creations.

The final five finalists will be judged by a panel that includes former The Great British Bake Off star Dame Mary Berry, Masterchef’s Monica Galetti and current Buckingham Palace Head Chef Mark Flanagan.

“I’m so thrilled to be panel chair for this exciting competition to make the perfect pudding fit for the Queen, and to work alongside such a wonderful team of judges. I hope everyone who enters has lots of fun and I wish them the very best of luck.” said Berry.

Hosted by Fortnum & Mason, the winning pudding will be an important part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. It is the first Platinum Jubilee in UK history.

Royal influence sweeps kitchens across the world

Fan of a Coronation chicken sandwich? Coronation chicken was originally served at Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation luncheon in 1953 and is believed to be inspired by the ‘Jubilee Chicken’ created for George V’s Silver Jubilee in 1935.

Another royal favourite is the Victoria Sponge cake. The cake’s name should really be The Royal Victoria Sponge, as its name harks back to Queen Victoria herself, who was said to enjoy a slice of the delicious cake with her traditional English afternoon tea.

Fancy making one yourself? The Buckingham Palace kitchen recently shared the Royal family’s Victoria Sponge cake recipe.
