Bizarre Street Signs “Warn” Minneapolis Residents After Justine Damond’s Death
At least two illegal street signs with the message "Warning: Twin Cities police easily startled" have been posted in Minneapolis and St. Paul, according to police spokespeople.

The signs were quickly taken down by both cities’ respective public works departments, but not before the message made its rounds on social media – garnering thoughts of shares on social media as public fallout over the fatal shooting of Justine Damond last week in Minneapolis continues.  According to city officials, posting unauthorised signage is a “petty misdemeanour” under state law, as well as under Minneapolis city ordinances.

“No person shall place, maintain or display upon or in view of any highway any unauthorised sign, signal, marking or device which purports to be or is an imitation of or resembles an official traffic-control device,” Minnesota law states.

The signs reference the fatal July 15 shooting of Justine Damond by Minneapolis Police Officer Mohamed Noor. Noor’s partner told investigators the shooting occurred after he was “startled” by a loud sound near their squad car. The shooting took place minutes after Justine called 911 to report a possible assault near her home.

Her fiancé, Don Damond, has spoken for the first time about Justine’s death, saying he urged the Australian yoga instructor to call the police when she first suspected the assault. He then, hung up once they arrived. “I have played this over in my head, over and over,” Don told the New York Times in a story published on Saturday. “Why didn’t I stay on the phone with her?”

He also told reporters he was “utterly devastated” by his fiancée’s death.

“Our lives are forever changed as a result of knowing her, she was so kind and so darn funny, she made us all laugh with her great wit and her humor,” Don added. “It is difficult to fathom how to go forward without her in my life.”
