Banksy print sells for record price at Auckland art auction
A Banksy screen print has set a world record after selling for $126,000 at auction in Auckland on Wednesday night.

The military-themed work, titled ‘Have A Nice Day’, was sold to an unidentified Kiwi buyer at the International Art Centre in Parnell.

It was expected the artwork would fetch around $60,000. The sale price was the most ever paid for a print of ‘Have A Nice Day’.

The screen print is one of a limited edition of 500 authentic copies of the artwork.

The International Art Centre said ahead of the auction, interest in the screen print came from London, New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong and further afield.

It comes not long after a rare proof of the elusive artist’s iconic image ‘Balloon Girl – Colour AP (Purple)’ sold for £791,250 at an online auction titled ‘Banksy: I can’t believe you morons actually buy this sh*t’.

The sale broke both the world auction record for a Banksy print and the world record for a print sold in an online auction.

Next month at Sotheby’s in London, Banksy’s ‘Show Me The Monet’ will go up for auction. According to Forbes, British singer Robbie Williams is prepared to pay as much as £10 million for the work.
