Auckland’s level 2.5 extended until 16 September, announces Ardern

Auckland’s level 2.5 extended until 16 September, announces Ardern
Cabinet has decided to extend the current alert levels, which were due to expire on Sunday, 6 September.

New Zealand’s current alert levels will remain until at least 16 September, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced today.

This means Auckland will remain at alert level ‘2.5’ and the rest of the country at level 2.

Cabinet will review alert levels on Monday, 14 September and any changes will occur from 11.59 pm on Wednesday, 16 September.

The Ministry of Health reported three new community cases of COVID-19 today, as well as two additional cases in managed isolation.

The three community cases are all linked to the Auckland cluster.

Speaking of cabinet’s decision, Ardern says officials are confident the Auckland cluster remains contained, but says a “cautious approach” is the best way to stay on track.

She says right now, there is no indication Auckland needs to move back to alert level 3.

Under the alert level ‘2.5’ restrictions, Aucklanders can still travel outside the regions, but social gatherings are limited to no more than 10 people, with 50 authorised for funerals and tangihanga.
