Apps to keep your kids occupied without feeling guilty about screen time
With so much time spent indoors lately, screen time has gone up for many kids. And let's face it, putting kids in front of a screen is an easy way to keep them quiet and entertained.

But as screen time has increased, so has guilt from parents. However, there are plenty of apps available nowadays that your kids can engage with, without you feeling worried about the impact extra time spent on a device will have on them.

Here’s a list of fantastic apps that will keep kids occupied for hours, without the guilt factor for parents:

  1. Momatu
Momatu  is a free timeline app designed to keep families connected by providing them with their own private space to capture, sort and share life’s keeper moments with one another. Momatu allows users to co-create beautiful timelines of their family including photos, video recordings, journal entries and other memories. Kids can use Momatu to create timelines of themselves, their siblings and their families, to share with grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, and to keep a digital journal for themselves. Timelines can only be shared with people you’ve invited, making it safe for kids. It’s available on mobile and desktop, for iOS and Android.
  2. Cosmic Yoga for Kids
Cosmic Yoga for Kids combines yoga, mindfulness and relaxation in fun interactive videos designed for kids aged 3 years plus. The host, Jaime Amor, keeps kids engaged with imaginative stories, many built around popular movies like Frozen and Star Wars, while they stretch their bodies and learn to practice the art of slowing down. Cosmic Yoga for Kids has become a go-to for families all over the world who’ve found themselves cooped up thanks to COVID-19. It’s especially great for families who don’t have access to a backyard or park, and for those rainy weather days. It’s available on the Cosmic Kids app or YouTube.
  3. ABC Reading Eggs
ABC Reading Eggs is designed to help kids strengthen their literacy skills and develop a love for reading. It offers a range of games, activities, songs, quizzes and rewards, to engage and motivate kids in practising reading and learning. Created by experienced educators and backed by scientific research, Reading Eggs teaches concepts like phonics, sight words and other essential literacy skills. Reading Eggs offers a free 30-day trial and is available on iOS and Android devices.
  4. Smiling Mind for Kids
Smiling Mind is a free app that helps children and adults to practise daily meditation and mindfulness exercises. Childhood anxiety is more prevalent than ever before and there’s an increasing amount of science-backed evidence for the benefits of mindfulness in easing anxiety. Developed by psychologists and educators to bring balance to our busy lives, Smiling Mind says even 10 minutes a day will make a difference for your kids (and you). It’s available on both iOS and Android devices.
