Aloft over Canberra

Aloft over Canberra
The Canberra Balloon Spectacular is a great way to show your support for the #HolidayHereCBR campaign in the wake of the shocking bushfire season.

The Canberra Balloon Spectacular will lift off from 7-15 March as part of Canberra’s Enlighten Festival.

It is quite the sight with 30 balloons from around the world launching from the lawns in front of the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House and floating over the city.

The balloons lift off at 6.15 every morning, carrying happy visitors and locals keen for this view of the national capital. It is the only event in the world where balloons can fly so close to buildings of national significance – including Parliament House.

This is the 35th year of the event, and this year there will be two special balloons, that are sure to raise eyebrows and cameras as they pass overhead. You will know when you see them – one is a Tyannosaurus Rex and the other is called the Skywhale, created by Patricia Piccinini – an Australian artist. Skywhale will frolic through the sky on Canberra Day, 9 March.

Visitors can watch the spectacle of the balloons being inflated like waking dragons, while enjoying live music, hot drinks and a hot breakfast from various food trucks of from the Belconnen Lions Club.

Book rides on the balloons through Dawn Drifters or Balloons Aloft.
