If you can’t go to France, let it come to you!

What: Don a beret, grab a glass of red wine and head on down to the Alliance Francaise French Film Festival this month showing on cinema screens right across Australia.

The Festival – featuring 37 films in 2021 – is the largest French film fest outside France and has been a favourite with Aussie audiences since it kicked off in 1988. Beloved European movie stars like Isabelle Huppert, Gerard Depardieu, Kristin Scott Thomas and Monica Bellucci are appearing in films this year, along with a host of up-and-coming stars. There are also special screenings of the 1960 Gallic classic, Breathless with Jean Seberg and Jean-Paul Belmondo.

This year, more than ever, we need respite from everyday life and every one of these films will transport and delight you, with many exploring the powerful urge to overcome obstacles, no matter the situation or sacrifice demanded.

Last year, the pandemic stopped the Festival mid-stream in March. Despite this, such is its popularity, more than 75,000 people came to the postponed event in July, making it the biggest cultural event of the year in Australia.
