What’s fresh in the world of fragrance right now? Juicy gourmands and florals with a fresh burst of fruit in the opening.

While citrus has long been a favourite to pair with white blooms such as jasmine, neroli, tuberose and gardenia, perfumers are now commonly reaching for more unexpected notes such as passionfruit, peach, and berry.

Like olfactory escapism, fragrances in this category are brilliant if you like your perfume to put a smile on your face as you spritz each morning.

If you find them too summery, look for ones playing up woody or velvet base notes in the composition.

Raspberry and blackberry are also replacing zestier fruits to offer a slightly more moody, or sophisticated vibe. Richer fig scents are another popular reinvention this season.

What’s appealing is that these blends largely avoid the very syrupy, synthetic reputation fruity perfumes once had. Now they are sharper, fresher and the notes are more realistic.

Lancôme’s Idôle Peach’N Roses Eau De Parfum is more literally fruity than any of the brand’s releases in recent memory. Its playful upbeat scent will appeal to those with fond memories of clambering up a tree and picking your own fuzzy and ripe peach.

Tangy raspberry leads the new version of YSL’s Libre Berry Crush, known for its bold floral signature that blends invigorating lavender from France and sensual orange blossom from Morocco.

Passionfruit has been the surprising hit of Armani Power of You Eau de Parfum, the tropical and delicious scent (it has frangipani and Madagascan vanilla, too) is undeniably upbeat. If you can’t do a sunny mid-winter getaway, this is the next best thing.

The latest update of Flowerbomb goes for a strawberry opening mixed with pretty peony notes on a lingering soft musk base. And if you do quite like a sweet-smelling scent, Dior’s new Dior Addict Rosy Glow brings together rose and lychee.

Berry-sweet not your thing? Another interesting approach is the use of tropical elements in the new interpretation of Marc Jacobs Daisy called ‘Daisy Wild’. Banana Blossom is paired with jasmine in the bright and lively perfume, that is ideal for hot days and steamy nights (even if you’re just imagining them).

Here’s what to spritz that we find akin to happiness in a bottle:
