Zambesi open NZFW with Mercedes-Benz Presents show

Local fashion label Zambesi opened New Zealand Fashion Week 2017 on Tuesday as the Mercedes-Benz Presents designer.

Two bespoke foil-coated racing suits designed specifically for the Mercedes-Benz partnership were the centrepiece of the show, which featured black lighting and futuristic music. “The garments evoke a powerful, ultramodern attitude synonymous with innovation and craftsmanship,” says Elisabeth Findlay, Zambesi Co-Founder and designer.

Creativity and quality – words synonymous with both Zambesi and Mercedes-Benz – were the underlying themes of the show. A myriad of colours, fabrics and patterns were showcased, from sheepskin and quilting to corduroy and knitwear. “Our muse for our collections always begin with the fabric,” says Liz Findlay. “Zambesi is all about innovative garments that are timeless, from the exterior to the inner-lining of every piece, our team is committed to keep up the quality.”

The collection will be available instores from February 2018.

Rachel Mills’ AW18 collection NEO KIND is a decadent dream

Inspired by the extravagant, self-indulgent manner of the early ’80s Blitz Kids movement, Rachel Mill’s AW18 collection NEO KIND is bold and beautiful.

Loosely structured silhouettes in tangerine, black and white deliver a look that is both practical and powerful. Pieces with exaggerated frills in elegant silk offer a feminine look, while tailored jackets and trousers in various shades of pinstripe allow for a more masculine option. Turtlenecks, flared jumpsuits and wide-legged trousers allude to the free-spirited, fashionable era Mills modelled the collection on.

The local designer showcased the collection at New Zealand Fashion Week today, transforming the space into an open exhibition with models scattered throughout the room. Lounging on various stools and platforms, the models highlighted NEO KIND’s versatile and daring nature. Synthetic music and dramatic coloured makeup by Lisa Matson at L’Oreal Paris completed the flamboyant, glitzy atmosphere.
