Kiwi cooks beat Aussies by baking the world’s largest lamington

21 July marks World Lamington Day and a team of Kiwi cooks have celebrated in a big way – by baking the world’s largest lamington.

The team of bakers from ready-made meals company, Cook’s Night Off, nabbed the Guinness World Record from Australian baker Quality Desserts, who previously held the record at 2,361 kgs.

Cook’s Night Off’s lamington weighed in at a massive 2,777 kgs, the equivalent of 50,000 regular lamingtons. It took over 500kg of flour, 650kg of sugar and 13,000 eggs to create the coconut-covered masterpiece.

The team started at around 7:30 am and finished assembling the giant lamington just after 5 pm.

After weighing, lucky spectators were able to take a slice of the delicious treat with a gold coin donation.

All the donations and any remaining lamington were donated to Auckland City Mission and charities that help feed the local community.
