TIME magazine has released its list of the World’s Greatest Places of 2022, and a New Zealand destination has made the cut.

Queenstown was among the 50 locations selected for the third annual list, which is chosen through nominations by the magazine’s international network of correspondents and contributors.

“Set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu on South Island, Queenstown is both a destination in its own right and a fantastic base to explore the region’s diverse landscapes,” TIME says.

Destination Queenstown CE Mat Woods says the news is a great reminder that Queenstown is renowned as a world-class destination.

“It’s fantastic to be acknowledged internationally, especially after a tough couple of years,” he says, “but with our borders now open and some exciting new initiatives happening in the local visitor economy, we are looking forward to getting back to doing what we are famous for – welcoming visitors and sharing our outstanding experiences.”
