We caught up with Siobhan to find out what it's like to be a female working in the wine industry...

Siobhan Wilson, of Marisco Vineyards, is keen to build a network of like-minded women in wine. She has been at Marisco for 11 years and is now the general manager of sales and marketing.

Siobhan has always enjoyed being a woman in the wine industry, praising the industry for being very open-minded.

“I would never say I was disadvantaged or found it more difficult being a female working in wine because I believe the wine industry is very open to anybody, but challenges probably arise around the support network of women in wine,” Wilson says.

“I’d like to be part of building a cohesive network where women can reach out to one another, share, collaborate and come up with ideas on how we can do things better. That’s my rationale for getting involved in the new Women in Wine New Zealand group.”

The new Women in Wine Pilot Mentoring Programme was launched in July this year by Women in Wine NZ. “The mentoring programme is going to play an important role in growing our future leaders and strengthening the industry,” says NZ Winegrowers chief executive Philip Gregan.
