He doesn’t want the children to not know their grandmother, Princess Diana.
“It’s hard because obviously Catherine didn’t know her, so she cannot really provide that—that level of detail,” he says.
“So, I do [when] regularly putting George or Charlotte to bed, talk about her and just try and remind them that there are two grandmothers, there were two grandmothers in their lives, and so it’s important that they know who she was and that she existed.”
Prince William has three children with the Duchess of Cambridge, Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte.
So what kind of grandma would Diana be if she were still around today?
A “nightmare” according to Prince William.
“She’d be a nightmare grandmother, absolute nightmare,” he joked. “She’d love the children to bits, but she’d be an absolute nightmare. She’d come and go and she’d come in probably at bath time, cause an amazing amount of scene, bubbles everywhere, bathwater all over the place and—and then leave.”
Sounds the perfect grandma to us, far from a nightmare!
As for Prince William’s father, Prince Charles utterly loves his four grandchildren, including Prince Harry’s son, Archie.
About being a grandfather, the future King has previously said: “It’s a different part of your life. The great thing is to encourage them. Show them things to take their interest. My grandmother did that, she was wonderful.” He added: “It is very important to create a bond when they are very young.”
