A new poll has found that Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex is the most popular British royal with the public in that country – the case is not the same for his new wife, Meghan Markle, or father.

Around 77 per cent of Britons have a positive opinion of Prince Harry, who is currently expecting his first child with his wife the Duchess of Sussex – formally Meghan Markle.

The Duke, who is sixth in line to the throne, is followed by the Queen who is in second place with 74 per cent, and the Duke of Cambridge, who is third with 73 per cent. This according to a poll undertaken by YouGov.

The younger generation of royals has proven especially popular in recent years, with the birth of Prince Louis in April this year and the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a month later.

Not surprisingly, the Duchess of Cambridge – who has won a legion of followers since she joined the royal family in 2011 – was in fourth place, while newest member the Duchess of Sussex came in at sixth place just behind the retired Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Harry is described by his fans as admirable, likeable, humorous, fun-loving and genuine, the YouGov survey said.

But in an arguably surprising turn of events, his wife trails him in the list by five places, with only 55 per cent of those polled saying that they have a positive view of the women’s rights advocate.

Less than half of the nation – 48 per cent – have a positive opinion of the heir to the throne. Prince Charles is behind his daughters-in-law and his father.

Around 3,700 interviews were carried out between May 15 and October 31 2018.
